The affected areas include Amiya Nagar, Chandmari, Rajgarh, Lachit Nagar, Ulubari, Rupnagar, Bora Service, Greater Zoo Road, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Tarun Nagar, Shreenagar, Bhaskar Nagar, Geetanagar, Ambikagiri Nagar, Sundarpur, Manik Nagar, Hengrabari, Swaraj Nagar, Dr. Zakir Hussain Road, Down Town, Bormotoria, Ramsahill, Latashil, Silpukhuri, Panbazar, Kharghuli, and surrounding areas.
This disruption comes in the wake of a water pipeline burst on Thursday, January 2 in the Kharghuli area, which caused extensive damage to homes, vehicles, and businesses. The burst occurred due to a pressure surge, reportedly caused by a power interruption during preparations for the installation of surge protection tanks at the Kharghuli Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
Speaking to GPlus, an official from Guwahati Jal Board said, “We had been working on installing surge tank vessels, as recommended by scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), to minimise water pressure on the pipelines and had planned a three-day water supply halt starting tomorrow. Unfortunately, this accident occurred. We are working on to repair the damage and install surge tank vessels.”
