GUWAHATI: A Circle Organiser of the Village Defence Organisation (CO VDO) at Dalgaon Police Station was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam on Tuesday, December 10.

A complaint was lodged with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that Kushal Medhi, Circle Organiser of the Village Defence Organisation (CO VDO) at Dalgaon Police Station, demanded a bribe of ₹ 7,000 for the registration of a Village Defence Party (VDP). The complainant, who was unwilling to pay, approached the Directorate seeking legal action against the public servant.
In response, a team from the Directorate set up a trap at Chakragaon under Dalgaon PS, District Darrang. Kushal Medhi was caught red-handed after accepting ₹ 4,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Further investigation is underway.
