GUWAHATI: A shocking incident came to light at JSB Civil Hospital in Chirang, where doctors and nurses were caught on camera allegedly consuming alcohol during their night shift.

The embarrassing scene, captured on video, has since gone viral, causing outrage and concern among the public.

According to media reports, the incident occurred when an individual, identified as Dhananjay Basumatary arrived at the hospital around 1 AM on Saturday seeking medical treatment for his relative.

To his astonishment, he stumbled upon the night shift doctor, identified as Christian Blessing, a radiologist, and Nurse Nidhi Pal, engaged in a raucous party within the hospital's premises. The closed room they occupied was littered with liquor bottles and cigarette remnants, adding to the shocking discovery, stated the media.

This recent development at JSB Civil Hospital compounds an already troubling situation. In the past, several expecting mothers, as well as newborns, have tragically lost their lives due to alleged negligence on the part of doctors and nurses in the same hospital, media reports stated.

Patients seeking treatment have voiced suspicions that the deaths resulted from incorrect medical procedures performed by doctors who were potentially under the influence of alcohol, as per media reports.

Indra Basumatary, the President of the Chirang district committee of the Bodo National Students' Union, has reacted strongly to the incident, as per media reports.

He has called for swift and stringent action against the doctors and nurses involved, emphasising the need for accountability and justice.

The disturbing revelation of doctors and nurses engaging in liquor consumption during their shifts has sparked outrage within the community. The incident not only tarnishes the reputation of JSB Civil Hospital but also raises serious concerns regarding the quality of medical care provided to patients, particularly those in critical conditions.

Authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation into the matter to determine the veracity of the claims made by patients and ascertain whether the alleged drunk doctors played a role in the unfortunate deaths of mothers and newborns, according to the media.

The community awaits decisive action and ensures the safety and well-being of patients seeking medical assistance at JSB Civil Hospital.
