GUWAHATI: Veteran Assamese actress Jnanada Kakati passed away on Wednesday, January 8, at the age of 90 at Bethany Hospital in Shillong.

Born in 1932 in Shillong, Kakati was a pioneering figure in Assamese cinema, making her debut in the film Parghat. Over the years, she starred in several notable films, including Piyoli Phukan, Sarapaat, Lakhimi, and Ronga Police, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
Her contributions to Assamese culture and cinema were recognized in 2002 when she was awarded the Bishnu Rabha Award by the Assam Government. Kakati will be remembered as a groundbreaker in Assamese film.
