GUWAHATI: Dipta Kantha Chamuah, the Block Development Officer of Chamaria in Kamrup district, Assam, was caught red-handed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, on January 8. The arrest unfolded after Chamuah allegedly accepted a bribe in his office from a complainant seeking favourable action on pending bills for completed works.
Simultaneously, Bhaskarjyoti Dutta, a Computer Assistant working in the same office, was apprehended during the sting operation on charges of conspiring in the bribery case. The complaint filed against Chamuah outlined that he demanded a bribe as a quid pro quo for expediting the payment of bills related to completed projects.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption orchestrated a trap operation leading to the apprehension of both Chamuah and Dutta. The accused individuals are expected to face legal consequences as investigations into the alleged bribery case progress.
