GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court Collegium (SCC) has recommended the elevation of two Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court to the position of Permanent Judges. The decision was made during the Collegium's meeting held on January 7.

The SCC approved the appointment of Justice Kardak Ete and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita as Permanent Judges of the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Kardak Ete has been serving as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court since March 13, 2023. He completed his LL.B. from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, and began his legal career in 1999 after enrolling with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.
Justice Ete has an extensive career in legal and governmental roles, having been designated as a Senior Advocate in 2014. He held the position of Additional Advocate General for Arunachal Pradesh in 2011, Senior Additional Advocate General in 2016, and Acting Advocate General in 2021.
Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita was elevated to the position of Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on April 20, 2023. A graduate in science from Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati, he completed his LL.B. at Gauhati University in 1994 and obtained his LL.M. from the same institution in 1997.
Justice Kalita began practicing law in 1994 after enrolling with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. He primarily practiced in district courts for nearly four years. In addition, he contributed to legal academia as a lecturer at J.B. Law College in Guwahati from 1998 to 2000 before joining the Assam Judicial Service on May 10, 2000.
