Three Elephants Found Dead In Assam's Manas; Poaching Suspected Near India-Bhutan Border

GUWAHATI: Three elephants have been found dead in the forested stretch of Assam's Manas National Park, under the Panbari Forest Range near the Palengchi Beat, an area close to the India-Bhutan border.

The carcasses were discovered by forest personnel during a routine patrol. Preliminary suspicion points to poisoning, possibly through bait, though forest officials have stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after a post-mortem.

The site of the incident, located deep inside the forest and along an international boundary, has raised serious concerns over the involvement of cross-border poaching networks. The terrain and proximity to the border make the area vulnerable to illegal wildlife activities.

Immediately after the discovery, a team from the Panbari Forest Division rushed to the spot and began an intensive search operation in the surrounding area. Senior forest officials are currently stationed at the location, overseeing investigation and security arrangements.
