GUWAHATI: Tezpur Central University in Assam will soon set up an Assamese Department.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Development (HRD) has approved the decision of opening a full-fledged Assamese department in Tezpur Central University.
It is to be mentioned that earlier, Tezpur Central University and Assam University in Silchar had already sent their proposals to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for opening the department, however, it was not accepted then.

Tezpur University will now become the third central university of India to get a full-fledged Assamese department.
As of now, Visva-Bharati University in Kolkata and the Diphu campus of Assam University have the Assamese department.
