Silchar Town In A Standstill As Amit Shah Visits, Commuters Harassed

GUWAHATI: As the Union Home minister Amit Shah visited Silchar to participate in a road show to support the BJP Silchar candidate Parimal Suklabaidya, the town connecting many states (Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram), came into a standstill.

The road show started from Devdoot point till Rangirkhari. But most of the connecting roads of the city were made a no entry zone.

It needs to be mentioned that the important road connecting many areas of Cachar with the railway station was blocked for the road show.

A passenger traveling from Silchar railway station to Bhaga Bazar Diplu Das talking to GPlus said, "I understand that for elections such rallies are important, but public should not be harassed."

He added that a public gathering could have been organised instead of the road show.

Similarly, many commuters were complaining about the situation and alleged that they were "harassed".

It needs to be mentioned that few days back even Guwahati witnessed a similar situation when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited and participated in a road show.

The road show organised in Silchar's Central road was very congested and there was a atempede like situation in many places, said many residents of the area.

The Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Silchar sitting MP Rajdeep Roy also participated in the road show along with BJP candidate Parimal Suklabaidya.

The road show was disrupted when it reached Silchar district hospital because of the rain. Owing to this, the supporters and the leaders were compelled to leave the road show abruptly.
