Tarun Gogoi, 8 Others From Assam to Receive Padma Awards 2021

GUWAHATI: A total of 9 people from Assam will be awarded the prestigious Padma Awards this year. The Padma Awards are the highest civilian awards in the country, given in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.


This year, a total of 9 laureates from Assam have been selected to be conferred the prestigious Padma Awards. The list was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, 25th January.

Late Tarun Gogoi, who was the Chief Minister of Assam for three terms has been selected for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award for his exceptional and distinguished service in Public Affairs.


In addition to this, 8 other laureates have been selected for the prestigious Padma Shri awards for their distinguished service in various field. They are :


1. Lakhimi Baruah for Social Work
2. Gopiram Bargayn Burabhakat for Art
3. Biyoja Chakravarty for Public Affairs
4. Mangal Singh Hazowary for Literature and Education
5. Dulal Manki for Art
6. Birubala Rabha for Social Work
7. Roman Sarmah for Literature and Education-Journalism
8. Imran Shah for Literature and Education


These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/April each year.
