Assam Approves ₹500 Crore Power Subsidy For Tariff Relief

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has sanctioned a total subsidy of ₹500 crore to the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to offset losses from a ₹1 per unit reduction in electricity tariff.

This was confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after the cabinet meeting held on Monday, May 5.

Of the total amount, ₹300 crore will be offered as a targeted subsidy while ₹200 crore will be allocated as a normal subsidy. Sarma further informed that a review of the electricity tariff will be conducted again in November this year.

In a related announcement, the cabinet also approved the decision to provide ₹5 lakh in compensation for victims of the Pahalgam attack after Sunday, May 12.
