GUWAHATI: Several students came out on the streets of Guwahati on January 6 for a protest to show solidarity with the JNU students and teachers who were attacked by a masked mob.

It is to be mentioned that masked men attacked students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)  with iron rods, sledgehammers, and glass bottles in the evening hours of January 5.

The protest took place at 4 pm near Nehru Park wherein several members of various students organisations gathered to condemn the violence.

Addressing to the public, Bhupen Sharma, Professor at Omeo Kumar Institute, who is also an ex-student of JNU said, "Several goons of Delhi, along with the support of the University Authority, entered the premises with weapons in their hands and attacked students and faculty members."

Sharma called the act as a pre-planned attack. He then went on to say that the Vice-Chancellor of the University wants to destroy the University in every way possible.

Students' Federation of India (SFI) President Kaishap Choudhary said, "RSS and BJP are fascist organisations. They want to put fear in us by attacking students but I want to let them know that we will not get scared. In fact, we will come out even stronger."
