St. Mary’s School Guwahati Completes 100 years

GUWAHATI: St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School in Guwahati, one of the oldest educational institutions in the city, celebrated its 100th anniversary on the 6th and 7th of June, 2024. Established in 1924, the school has been a cornerstone of education, particularly for young girls, in the region. May noted dignitaries and eminent personalities have since studied here and are still grateful for being a part of this respectable institution.

Talking to GPlus, Sr. Tessy Davis, the principal of St. Mary’s, expressed her joy over the milestone. “I feel extremely happy about it because from the very beginning until today, St. Mary's school has been progressing well. We have always strived to meet the existing educational standards while also catering to the holistic development of our students. We emphasise not only on academic excellence but also spiritual growth and other essential values,” she said.

Sr. Tessy highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals. “From our education, students achieve all-round development, becoming socially fit and intellectually excellent. Our aim is to help them climb the ladder of success while maintaining a good heart and being good human beings,” she added.



The school currently has 2,200 students enrolled, reflecting its significant role in the local community.

The centenary celebrations, held on June 6, featured various programs that showcased the talent and spirit of the students. Events included a welcome song by the class 10 students and a performance titled “Sand Through the Hour Glass: A Hundred Years Journey,” among others. The celebrations also welcomed back alumni, with at least 200 former students attending to honor their alma mater.
