The case came to light following a complaint that Islam had taken large sums of money from several people, misleading them with false assurances of securing government employment.
Investigations revealed that the NGO, operating from Katahbari in Guwahati’s Gorchuk, was only permitted to facilitate scholarship awareness initiatives free of charge and had no authority to offer job placements.

He is a supervisor of an NGO, which is authorised to create awareness of scholarships in schools across the state. He is now in custody and we are investigating the matter.”
