Cotton University Receives PAIR Grant For Research Projects

 

GUWAHATI: Cotton University has been awarded the Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR) grant by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). The university will be part of a consortium led by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), along with Tezpur University, Central University of Punjab, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, and Berhampur University.

Cotton University is expected to receive approximately ₹14 crore to fund 11 interdisciplinary research projects over the next five years. These projects will focus on Advanced Materials, Molecular and Synthetic Biology, and Environmental Sustainability. Dr. Abdul Wahab will lead the research, supported by 22 faculty members from seven science departments, under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Ch. Deka.

The university was selected as one of seven hub institutes from 30 shortlisted candidates, based on its performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The selection process took place at the Indian Academy of Sciences in Bengaluru on March 7 and 8, 2025.

The grant will also support the acquisition of three advanced research instruments: a 400 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer, a Photoluminescence Spectrophotometer, and an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS), enhancing the university’s research capabilities in material sciences and chemical/biological analysis.
