GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has arrested a senior CPI (Maoist) leader, who is wanted in multiple cases from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Guwahati.
Acting on specific intelligence input, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Monday evening arrested the Maoist leader from the ISBT in Guwahati.
The STF team knew about the arrival of Amiruddin Ahmed (54 yrs) from Barak Valley. He was arrested within minutes of disembarking from the bus.
Ahmed, also known as Sunil and Surjya, hails from Satsiya Pokia village under Fakirganj police station in Dhubri district.
Ahmed has been associated with the CPI (Maoist) since 2009 and currently serves as the Mass Organizer in the Cachar area, and also acts as an Observer for Dibrugarh and other Upper Assam districts.
Though STF officials are tight-lipped, it has come to the fore that the Maoist leader was involved in organizational work, particularly in Adivasi-inhabited areas of Barak Valley.
It has also come to the fore that Ahmed's wife, Nirmala Biswas, also known as Seema and Subhra, holds a senior position within the CPI (Maoist), and operates in West Bengal.
A case has been registered at the STF Police Station, and Ahmed, the arrested leader, will likely be produced in court on Tuesday. Necessary legal actions will follow in due course.
