Rhino Poaching Attempt Foiled In Assam, Rifle and Silencer Recovered

 

GUWAHATI: A poaching attempt was thwarted in Kaziranga, Assam on November 12 as acting on information provided by an arrested suspect, Abdul Barek of Bokabil village, Sootea, police also recovered a rifle with an attached silencer near Mukherghur Tea Estate under Biswanath Chariali Police Station.

Barek apprehended in connection with Sootea police case No. 94/24, led authorities to the concealed weapon.

Investigations revealed that the rifle had been procured from Dimapur and was intended for use in an attempted rhino poaching operation in Kaziranga National Park. Barek and his associates had allegedly planned the attack on one of Assam’s endangered rhinos.
