GUWAHATI: Renowned scholar of Shankari literature and professor Bhaba Prasad Chaliha passed away on April 7.
Chaliha was also deputy office-bearer of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha and head of the Assamese Department at the Gauhati University. Additionally, he held the esteemed title of 'Prajnaratna' professor.

He was also the recipient of the prestigious 2020 Srimanta Sankardeva Award from the government of Assam.
Tributes started pouring in from all quarters, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who expressed profound grief upon hearing the news of Chaliha's demise. Sarma emphasised that Chaliha's contributions to literature would be revered by future generations.

Others also joined Sarma in paying tribute to Chaliha, including union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and cabinet ministers Atul Bora and Jayanta Mallabaruah. The passing of Chaliha is mourned not only by the literary community but also by the wider society, recognising his significant impact on Assamese literature and culture.
