GUWAHATI: A team of Assam’s transport department carried out a raid at the Jonali office of Rapido in Guwahati on February 22.

Speaking to G Plus, Bapon Kalita, DTO Kamrup (M) said, "The office of the Rapido has been sealed as they were plying illegally in the city."

Earlier in 2019, an operation against the Rapido captains was launched in August 27 to catch hold of the violators.

"Rapido or other Bike Taxi services in the city take all the passengers without availing any commercial license or commercial permit from the DTO," said Bapon Kalita.

It is to be mentioned that the President of All Assam Cab Operators’ Union, Ismail Ali, talking to G Plus said, “We have submitted a memorandum to the government to stop the Rapido service as soon as possible but the government has not responded in any way.”

A source in the DTO said that Uber and Ola four-wheeler taxis do not require a commercial licence but require commercial permits which the two-wheeler taxis do not require.
