GUWAHATI: The Finance department of Assam has issued a crucial directive to all distribution companies (DISCOMS) and sub-divisionals regarding the acceptance and disposal of bills and cheques.

In a message on March 30, the department clarified that all bills and cheques, excluding those related to salary, wages, and pension, must be accepted until 6:00 PM on March 30. However, treasury officers are instructed to accept bills and cheques pertaining to centrally sponsored schemes only until 1:00 PM on March 31.
Furthermore, treasury officers are mandated to dispose of all claims before 5:00 PM on March 31. The message emphasised that no further extension will be allowed beyond this deadline.

This directive, issued in supersession of an earlier message, aims to streamline the process of bill acceptance and disposal, ensuring timely and efficient financial transactions across departments.
