GUWAHATI: In a much-anticipated revival, Dibrugarh, Assam, is set to host a Ranji Trophy (Elite Group) match after an 18-year hiatus.
Sports enthusiasts in Dibrugarh are eagerly anticipating the clash between Assam and Andhra Pradesh scheduled to take place at DDSA Stadium from January 19 to 22.
The last time the DDSA outdoor stadium in Dibrugarh witnessed a Ranji Trophy match was in 2005, featuring Assam and Kerala.
Niranjan Saikia, the General Secretary of the Dibrugarh District Sports Association, while talking to the media said, "We are happy that after 18 years, a Ranji Trophy (Elite Group) match will be played at the DDSA outdoor stadium."
Saikia assured that the association is fully prepared to host the upcoming match, emphasising the visit of the BCCI pitch curator, who is preparing the pitch for the event.
Saikia further stated, "We are expecting a good crowd for the match. Cricket lovers are eagerly waiting to see Hanuma Vihari bat for Andhra Pradesh. Now, we have the infrastructure to host Ranji Trophy matches in Dibrugarh."
The list of players to represent Assam in the next two matches of the Ranji Trophy Tournament against Andhra Pradesh & Bengal scheduled to be held at Dibrugarh have been announced below.
