President Ram Nath Kovind Rejects Mercy Plea of Nirbhaya Rape Convicts

GUWAHATI: President Ram Nath Kovind has rejected the mercy plea in Nirbhaya rape case on January 17, Friday.

Mukesh Singh, one of the four death row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, had filed the mercy petition a few days ago.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had sent the mercy petition of 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case convict Mukesh Singh to President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday night after it was received from Delhi Governor Anil Baijal’s office for review, the MHA said on Friday.

The four convicts -- Mukesh Singh (32), Vinay Sharma (26), Akshay Kumar Singh (31) and Pawan Gupta (25) were to be hanged on January 22 at 7 am in Tihar Jail. A Delhi court had issued their death warrants on January 7.
