Preparations underway for Counting Day

GUWAHATI: Preparations are in full swing for counting of votes for all the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam on 23 May.

Counting will begin at 8 AM and trends are expected to start coming in by noon. Counting will be held in 51 centres across the state.

According to Election Commission guidance, counting of Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) and Postal Ballots will be carried out first.

Five Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be randomly selected from each Assembly constituencies for matching with voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips.

Counting will be delayed by 5-6 hours as the VVPAT slips will be counted after EVM votes.

Security arrangements have also been beefed up in the state to ensure smooth and hassle-free counting.
