GUWAHATI: A police team from the Bindhakata Police Patrol Post in Jerai, Dibrugarh was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals suspected to be involved in gambling on November 14.
According to official information, the police team had received information about a gambling den near a Kali Temple in Jerai and proceeded to investigate based on the tip. Upon reaching the location, they discovered several people engaged in a dice-based gambling game.
As the police attempted to intervene and halt the gambling activities, a heated argument ensued between the police and some individuals present at the scene. The situation escalated when one of the individuals attacked the police team, prompting others to join in.
According to police sources, the in-charge of the patrol post was also assaulted by the mob, and the patrolling vehicle sustained damage during the confrontation.
Talking to GPlus, an official from Bindhakata Police Station said, “Our team was assaulted by a squad yesterday as we went to investigate the gambling den in which two of our officers were injured in the scuffle.”
In response to the incident, the police have initiated an investigation and are actively working to trace all individuals involved in the attack.
