The Assam Police confirmed the suspensions in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on May 4. The statement said, “Reference Bordumsa incident. @DGPAssamPolice has ordered the following with immediate effect. The Officers & Personnel involved suspended & closed to OR. The OC closed to OR. SP @TinsukiaPolice to complete enquiry in 48 hrs.”

The victim, identified as Sanjeev Moran from Mohong village, was allegedly summoned to the Bordumsa Police Station on Saturday, May 3, by Officer-in-Charge, Second Officer and another official. Reports suggest Moran was allegedly assaulted and tortured.

According to reports, the assault followed a verbal spat between Moran and police officials during Panchayat election voting. He was called in the next day, where the alleged custodial violence occurred.

Moran is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, and his condition is said to be critical.

Public fury erupted soon after the incident came to light. On Sunday, May 4, angry residents gheraoed the Bordumsa Police Station, demanding strict action and a judicial probe. Protesters labelled the act “barbaric” and criticised the police for abuse of power, demanding justice for the victim.

The Superintendent of Police, Tinsukia, has been tasked with completing an inquiry within 48 hours. The situation remains tense in the area, with locals continuing to demand accountability and transparency.
