GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance And Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Assam apprehended a police officer on alleged charges of bribery on January 9 at Chirang.
A complaint was received at DVAC, Assam, alleging that the individual identified as Sub Inspector (UB) Chintu Das of Dhaligaon Town Outpost under Kajalgaon Police Station, Chirang, had allegedly demanded ₹1,50,000 as a bribe from the complainant for releasing his vehicles. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the authorities to take necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant.
Accordingly, a trap was laid yesterday by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, at Dhaligaon Town Outpost, in Chirang in which SI Chintu Das was caught in the Outpost, immediately after he accepted ₹10,000 as part of demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly in the presence of independent witnesses.
Further legal proceedings are underway as we await details.
