GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address 20 rallies in poll-bound West Bengal and six rallies in neighbouring Assam.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has planned these rallies in a manner that ensures the prime minister covers most districts in the two poll-bound states, news agency reports stated.
West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are slated to go to polls in 2021.
However, the BJP's primary focus this time is on West Bengal, a state where it has enhanced its support base considerably over the past five years and has emerged as the leading competitor to the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Meanwhile in Assam, the 2021 legislative assembly elections are crucial for the BJP because it has been in power in the state for the past five years. In the remaining two states (Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and Puducherry, the BJP is not a serious player and has low stakes.
