PM Announces Compensation To Family Of Deceased, Injured In Dergaon Accident

GUWAHATI: In response to the tragic accident in Dergaon, Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The Prime Minister conveyed his wishes for the swift recovery of those injured in the unfortunate incident.

Assuring all possible support, PM Modi highlighted the proactive role of the local administration in providing assistance to those affected by the accident. He announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased individual. Additionally, a compensation of ₹50,000 will be provided to each injured person.

On Wednesday morning at around 4:30 AM, a bus carrying picknickers who were on their way to Tinsukia collided with a coal-laden truck in Dergaon’s Balijan area. 10 people have lost their lives and over 24 people were injured.

The injured were transferred to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and Dergaon Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention.
