Only 22 Tourist Places Managed By Assam Government

GUWAHATI: The Assam government manages only 22 tourist spots and localities across the state. 

In the question hour session of Assam Legislative Assembly, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Member of Legislative Assembly, Chaygaon constituency, forwarded few questions regarding tourism in Assam. Replying to the questions on January 6, Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah provided a written statement, "The information about tourist places or spots being managed by the Government of Assam is as follows. 

The below mentioned places are managed by Prashanti Lodge, Wayside Amenity Centre, Log Hut, under the aegis of Department of Tourism or designated lessee:

1. Kaziranga National Park
2. Manas National Park 
3. Nameri National Park
4. Orang National Park
5. Dibru Saikhuwa National Park
6. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
7. Sibsagar
8. Charaideo (Sibsagar)
9. Gargaon (Sibsagar)
10. Majuli
11. Guwahati
a. Kamakhya Mandir
b. Navagraha Mandir 
c. Sukhreshwar Mandir
d. Dighalipukhuri
12. Around Guwahati
a. Hajo
b. Sualkuchi
c. Madan Kamdev
d. Chandubi
13. Tezpur

On the question of what steps have been taken by the Government in the construction of tourist spots, to which the Tourism Minister replied, "In the field of construction of tourist places, the Government of Assam, Department of Tourism have taken necessary steps for the development of various infrastructure such as tourist accommodation, passenger accommodation, roadside shopping centre, urinal, washroom, rest rooms,  open park, parking space, picnic spot, boating,  bird watching stations etc."
