One Apprehended In Currency Counterfeit From Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In a successful operation conducted on Wednesday by a team of the Assam Special Task Force (STF), a significant breakthrough was made in the fight against counterfeit currency.

Acting on intelligence provided by Parthasarathi Mahanta, IPS, DIG(STF), Assam, the team apprehended Md. Sahanoor Islam (28), an individual involved in illegal activities related to fake Indian currency notes (FICN). The arrest took place near the ISBT bypass, Guwahati at approximately 7 PM.

During the subsequent spot interrogation, the STF team conducted a search operation at Islam's residence located in Ahom Gaon, Guwahati. The search yielded bundles of photocopied Indian currency notes in 500 denominations, as well as bundles of blank white papers resembling Indian currency notes of the same denomination.

Investigations have revealed that the accused operated as a cheater, enticing unsuspecting individuals with the promise of doubling their original Indian currency notes in exchange for FICN.

It has further come to light that Islam has been engaged in this illicit business for an extended period, with indications pointing to the presence of additional individuals in his criminal gang.

A case has been registered at the STF Police Station under Case No. 05/2023 U)S 120(B)/489(A)/489(C)/489(D) IPC. Subsequently, Md. Sahanoor Islam was arrested and is now in custody.

In a significant development, law enforcement also recovered a compact SUV, four mobile phones, and a pistol-like lighter from the possession of the arrested suspect.

Efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend the other co-accused persons involved in this network.
