No More Roadside 'Biryani' for Guwahatians, Govt to Conduct Food Safety Drives

GUWAHATI: Minister of state for health and family welfare, Pijush Hazarika said on Thursday that from March 6 onwards, the state government will conduct food safety drives against food stalls on the footpaths.

Hazarika was talking at the inauguration programme of state public health laboratory, Bamunimaidam, as NABL accreditation status with sophisticated instrument facility and food safety on wheels.

It is to be mentioned that the minister said that the drive will especially be conducted to check food safety of the 'Biryani' stalls set up at the road side.

"Even I like Biryani but Biryani cooked and sold on the roadside is not good for health," the minister added.

Meanwhile the government has also procured a food safety machine worth 8.5 crore for the drive in addition to an already existing machine.

The drive will be held against those shops which do not have valid licence to operate, said Hazarika.
