Nikunjalata Mahanta passes away

Noted Borgeet exponent Nikunjalata Mahanta passed away on 8th August. She had been in the GMCH since July 25th. She was 79 during the time of her death. Nikunjalata Mahanta was one of the first Assamese to perform Borgeet in All India Radio. She was also closely associated with the Assamese Theatre and the Indian People’s Theatre Association. She had vastly contributed towards popularizing Borgeet among the people of Assam, as well as outside. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, AGP president Atul Bora, former Chief Minister PK Mahanta, State BJP, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), All Assam Students’ Union, All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU), State Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, and many other organizations condoled her death.
