NH 37 Blocked near Kaziranga, Upper-Lower Assam connectivity cut off

GUWAHATI: The authorities have blocked NH 37 which crosses from alongside Kaziranga National Park after incessant rainwater flooded the roads.         

The road was blocked since 8.30 am on Monday affecting vehicular movement. The road blockade also left several people stranded who were crossing from along the area.

Angshuman Dutta, a Guwahati resident who was returning to the city told G Plus, “The highway has been closed since morning and cars are unable to pass. I was coming to Guwahati but I am stuck here in Kohora and now have to wait for the road to be reopened so that I can go.”    

This has also affected Upper and lower Assam connectivity heavily.

“The havoc created by the flood has cut the National Highway 37 at Bokakhat with the rest of entire upper Assam and the part is now completely disconnected with the rest of Assam. The highway along that area has been closed keeping in mind the safety of the commuters as well as animals,” informed Shailendra Pandey, PRO to Assam forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya.   

Further, as per CM Sarbananda Sonowal’s directions, Minister of State, Environment and Forests Naba Kumar Doley also visited the Park today to camp at Kaziranga to supervise all the measures taken to ensure safety and security of the wild animals of the Park and other issues resulted due to flood in Kaziranga National Park.
