GUWAHATI: Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) may ban the use of plastic and plastic materials at railway stations that fall under its jurisdiction. Water and energy audits will also be initiated at those stations.

On January 22 this year, National Green Tribunal (NGT) released a list asking the Indian railways to identify 5% of the 720 major stations to devise a station-wise action plan to maintain cleanliness.

NFR’s Guwahati and Kathiar stations have been featured in the list to make them Eco Smart stations as per the International Standards Organization (ISO) 14001 standard established by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
