GUWAHATI: A new revised undergraduate medical syllabus will be out this August for students pursuing the course. The new syllabus has been revised after almost 20 years.

It has been patented by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is said to be a "unique curriculum."

According to a report by The Hindu, the document is currently open to review and revision and is in its final lap of preparation before its implementation.

In lieu of the new syllabus being introduced, a core group of 40,000 medical teachers, all of whom were previously trained by the MCI is ensuring training for teachers as well.

Some of the new elements in the course include subjects such as ethics, clinical exposure, inter-department co-ordination, skill enhancement modules, a new foundation bridge course etc.

However, not all faculties appointed to teach the course are happy with the changes being made. Some of them have noted that few important topics have been left out from the syllabus such as disability competencies for health professionals, importance of empathetic non-verbal communication etc.
