National Centre Of Excellence For Badminton Inaugurated In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially inaugurated the National Centre of Excellence for Badminton in Amingaon yesterday. During the inauguration, he also laid the foundation for the Amingaon Sports Complex, a project estimated at ₹320 crore.

The newly inaugurated National Centre of Excellence for Badminton boasts 16 courts, seating for 3,553 spectators, dedicated player hostels, and coach accommodations, all spanning an expansive 40,000 square feet. This establishment is anticipated to greatly bolster training and talent development for badminton enthusiasts across the region.

CM Sarma, addressing the gathering, highlighted that the forthcoming sports complex in Amingaon will feature a games village for athletes. Furthermore, he shared his ambition for Assam to host the National Games, with potential dates set for 2025 or 2027.

CM Sarma also discussed the planned renovation of the existing Nehru Stadium, which is expected to cost ₹500 crore and result in a stadium with state-of-the-art amenities. Additionally, a new stadium will be erected in Chandrapur, while an Olympic-standard swimming pool is underway in Amingaon.

Renowned personalities from the world of badminton, such as Chief Coach of Badminton Association of India Pullela Gopichand and notable players like Kidambi Srikanth, Dhruv Kopila, Bishnu Prasad Pranjala and S.S. Pranay, were also present during the inauguration.
