GUWAHATI: In a recent development, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam exposed corruption within the Legal Metrology Department. Naba Kr. Sarma, Senior Assistant in the department, was apprehended today after allegedly accepting a bribe. The operation also ensnared Diganta Borah, an Inspector in the same department, for his involvement in the conspiracy.
The bribery scandal revolved around the renewal of a Legal Metrology Certificate for a complainant's petrol pump. Sarma and Borah allegedly collaborated to demand and accept bribes in exchange for facilitating the certificate renewal.
The operation was revealed through statements made from the official X account of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption trapped the individuals after they accepted the bribe.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption stated, “Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped Naba Kr. Sarma, Sr. Asstt, Legal Metrology Deptt, after he accepted bribe in conspiracy with Diganta Borah, Insp of the same Deptt. for renewing Legal Metrology Certificate for the complainant’s Petrol Pump.”

"In the same trap operation, Diganta Borah, Inspector of O/O Controller, Legal Metrology Department has also been apprehended for demanding bribe and accepting it through Naba Kumar Sarma, in conspiracy with him," further stated the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

The apprehended individuals are expected to face legal proceedings for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
