Karbi Anglong mob lynching incident to be transferred to Fast Track Court: Siddhartha Bhattacharya

Assam Law and Justice Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya on behalf of the state government had assured a fast track trial of the Karbi Anglong mob lynching incident.

“A government prosecutor will be assigned for the case for a speedy trial and disposal of justice,” Bhattacharya told media here.

He also said urged the court to transfer the lynching case of 2013 in which, Jhankar Saikia was brutally beaten by a mob at Diphu on 2013. Bhattacharya’s move came a month after he took charges the State Law and Justice Minister, and amid calls from Jhankar’s father Haren Saikia of, “ a justice delayed is a justice denied”.

“It’s high time that we increase our efficiency in our case disposal,” Bhattacharya said.

In a bid to do so, Bhattacharya announced a review of the cases represented by the government lawyers and its progress after every three months.

Two youths from Guwahati – Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath -- were on last June 8 brutally beaten to death near Dokmoka of Karbi Anglong by a mob of 150 people after rumours that they were child-lifters.
