Japanese Encephalitis deaths highest in Assam; Death toll reaches 56

GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey mentioned that Assam has recorded the highest number of deaths due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) outbreak with 56 people dying.

Choubey said this while presenting the data in the Lok Sabha on July 12. He added that 215 people have been affected by the disease.

The Minister also informed that Assam recorded the highest number of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) cases in the country with 947 positive cases. 

Meanwhile, Assam stands with the second-highest number of deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) after Bihar with 128 deaths while Bihar recorded 196 deaths due to AES in the current year of which most of them are children, according to the minister.
