Jan 8 Declared Public Holiday In North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council For Elections 2023

GUWAHATI: The Governor of Assam has announced a public holiday in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council region on January 8, 2024, on account of elections.

The public holiday announcement comes as part of the electoral process for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, as outlined in the official communication from the State Election Commission dated December 13, 2023.

The decision is aimed at ensuring that the residents of the region have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process without any hindrance.

As a result of this declaration, all offices, educational institutions, and business establishments, including banks and tea gardens, situated within the jurisdiction of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, will remain closed on the specified date.

This is particularly relevant for areas where polling stations will be set up for the council election. The temporary closure of these entities is a strategic move to create a conducive environment for residents to exercise their right to vote without any disruptions.
