GUWAHATI: In a major haul of illicit cigarettes, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 33,60,000 sticks of cigarettes of foreign origin in Guwahati from a warehouse. The consignment is valued at Rs. 3,98,00,000.
It is to be mentioned that the illegal cigarette trade comprising of internationally smuggled and locally manufactured, tax-evaded cigarettes accounts for as much as 1/4th of the cigarette industry in India.
