ICSE students failing in one subject can reappear in exam, without repeating a year

GUWAHATI: The Council for the School Certificate Examination, which conducts ICSE (class 10) and ISC (class 12) exams, for the first time since 1958, has allowed students to appear for a compartmental examination for one subject without repeating the academic year.

This decision was made so that students who fail in one subject will be able to appear for the exam in the same year, without having to repeat the whole year.

However, clearing the English paper will be mandatory for both ICSE and ISC students.

“The ICSE students would have to clear three more subjects in addition to English to be eligible for the compartment exam and the ISC students would have to clear two subjects. Only then can they appear for compartment exam,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of the council, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Once marksheets arrive, ‘eligible for compartmental exam’ will be mentioned for students who can appear for it and schools can then register the students online starting from June 24 until June 30.

The compartment exams will be conducted on July 15, 16 and 17 of this year. Following that, the final results will be declared on August 5.

Also, students will now be able to avail marksheets with details of marks obtained in each individual subject and section.

It should be noted that ISC students will get their mark sheets by May 11 and ICSE students will get their mark sheets and passing certificates by May 8.
