GUWAHATI: The police intercepted a vehicle transporting a large quantity of heroin in Amingaon, Guwahati on January 14.

Based on a tip-off, a Special Task Force (STF) team intercepted a white suv vehicle at Amingaon early this morning. The vehicle, reportedly travelling from Mizoram to Kamrup, was linked to the notorious Touthing narcotics family from Churachandpur, Manipur. Upon inspection, the STF found 94 soap boxes containing heroin hidden in secret compartments of the vehicle. The total weight of the seized heroin amounted to 1 kg 128 gram, with a street value estimated at approximately ₹9 crore rupees.
Two individuals, Onkhogin Touthing (driver) and Thangkhaelien (co-driver), were arrested at the scene. Further investigations led to the arrests of two additional individuals—Nurul Hussain of Dampur, Hajo, and Bitul Ali of Goreswar—who were identified as the recipients of the narcotics.
Legal proceedings are underway.
