Hearing of NRC Applications for Excluded People to begin from February 14

GUWAHATI: The hearing of 36 lakh applications of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for people who were excluded will begin from February 14.

The NRC Coordinator’s Office has planned to complete the process of hearing and verification of the claims and objections by June 15. This is being done as at least 45 days will be required for quality check so that the deadline by the Supreme Court will be met.

The NRC authority has employed approximately 3500 officers to be on the job and the first 15 days of the process will be used for document verification as all the excluded people have submitted their documents again, according to reports.

The Supreme Court has notified that the NRC authorities should publish the final document on July 31, 2019.

The notices for the next phase of the process will only begin once the government confirms the number of officers to be deployed for the job.

It should be noted that approximately 40 lakh names were left out from the final NRC draft published in July 30, 2018.
