GUWAHATI: A bus carrying over 50 school children collided head-on with a four wheeler near Kalgachia town in Barpeta on Tuesday morning at around 9 AM.
The car driven by a retired government official accompanied by his wife and two daughters, was en route from Bongaigaon to Barpeta, as confirmed by a police official.
The collision left the occupants of the car severely injured. Unfortunately, the retired government official, who was driving, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
A police official of Kalgachia Police Station while talking to GPlus said that the car was reportedly speeding and had overtaken an e-rickshaw just before colliding with the school bus, which was on its way to Bongaigaon for an excursion.
The car was completely damaged and the passengers of the car was initially taken to Barpeta Civil Hospital to receive treatment but after seeing the grievous condition of the individual behind the steering wheel, he was referred to Barpeta Medical College where he passed away while receiving treatment.
The children aboard the school bus received minor injuries when the driver applied the brakes, the police official further informed.
