Guwahati's State Cancer Institute To Get Proton Beam Therapy Centre

 

GUWAHATI: Assam will establish a Proton Therapy Centre at the State Cancer Institute, Guwahati, the first such facility in Eastern India and the third in the country. This was announced by  Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Monday, March 10, while presenting the budget for 2025-26 in the assembly.

The therapy centre  will contribute to specialised cancer treatment especially for children.

The project, estimated to cost ₹550 crore, will be funded by the state government along with contributions from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The facility has been prioritised to enhance Assam’s medical infrastructure and position the state as a hub for medical tourism. 

Relatedly, the government is also working to attract leading hospitals to Assam by offering land at concessional rates and other incentives, the minister said.
