GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced a series of urban development initiatives for Guwahati, with a ₹2,704 crore allocation to boost waste management, infrastructure, and heritage conservation.

This was announced in the state budget for 2025-26 presented by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog in the state assembly on Monday, March 10.
The Legacy Waste Treatment Project at Boragaon has already processed 5.20 lakh tons of waste, treating 2,000 metric tons daily. To further revitalise the area, an urban forest and park will be developed at the site. Additionally, the minister said, a 150 TPD Compost & RDF Plant has been set up at Belortol, along with multiple Refuse Transfer Stations (RTS) and Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) to improve waste processing.
Guwahati will also see an expansion of the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre, with a food court, promenade, and a memorial dedicated to warriors who fought alongside Ahom General Lachit Barphukan.
Infrastructure projects include Blue-Green Infrastructure at the new Guwahati Bridge and drainage improvements in the Bahini Basin to combat urban flooding. Meanwhile, the Jagiroad Satellite Township is progressing with land allocated for Tata Semiconductor Assembly and the Assam Electronics & Semiconductor Logistics Park (AESLP).
Additionally, a working women’s hostel worth ₹142 crore will be constructed this year with support from the central government.
