Shelter Home For Transgender Community To Be Set Up In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam government will establish a shelter home for the transgender community in Guwahati to provide a safe space, support, and rehabilitation opportunities for transgender individuals, reinforcing the state's commitment to social welfare and empowerment.

This was announced by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog in her budget speech on Monday, March 10.

The minister furthering said that the government has introduced financial incentives for meritorious OBC and SC students from economically weaker backgrounds to support marginalised communities. Efforts to empower persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) include skill training programmes, while the Government Braille Press continues its work in printing and supplying Braille textbooks across the Northeast, ensuring visually impaired students have access to quality education.

The government has announced ₹417 crore for the project.

Additionally, the government has allocated adequate Grants-in-Aid to Kamatapur, Moran, and Mottak Autonomous Councils to enhance administrative capacities and drive socioeconomic growth in these regions.
