GUWAHATI: The Lachit Nagar foot over-bridge near Ulubari, Guwahati has become an unsafe zone for women lately.

The footbridge is totally covered by banners and has no provision of electricity, which makes crossing over the bridge very unsafe for women after sunset.

"The visibility of people walking on the footbridge is low and the addition of the banner makes it even blurrier for people. In case somebody faces a medical emergency or if women are groped on the bridge and are unable to scream loud enough, help will not reach from nearby passers or from people on the road," expressed a commuter, speaking to G Plus

"From the aspect of women's safety, the banners should be removed from the foot over-bridge as it is not transparent from the street. We cannot keep an eye on the footbridge as we need to regulate road traffic," said traffic in-charge Abhishekh Boro.

When G Plus asked about the safety of women, a student, who often uses the footbridge said, "The banners can be placed at some other place where women safety isn't compromised. The government should prioritise women's safety in Guwahati."
