Guwahati Woman Caught in Broking Racket Returns from Rajasthan

GUWAHATI: A 30 year old woman from Guwahati, who was allegedly caught up in a broking racket, has been successfully rescued by Assam Police. The woman, who hails from Bhootnath in Guwahati, was rescued from Aalwar district in Rajasthan.


The woman went missing on 19th December last after getting caught up in a broking racket. As per media reports, an amount of Rs. 1.3 lakhs was taken by the brokers, although the authenticity of this is not verified. However, Bharalumukh Police has indicated that advance amount might have been taken by the brokers.


The woman, who first went to Bongaigaon from Guwahati, met some old acquaintances there and was offered work, and thereafter eventually got caught up in the racket. She then went to Rajasthan where she was involved in some work that required her to handle cattle. She was provided with a cell phone as well.

However, the woman was not coerced at any point as confirmed by Rajasthan Police. The woman said in a statement that she went for work to Rajasthan and was not forced at any point.


The woman later wanted to come back to Guwahati and contacted Assam Police, who in cooperation with Rajasthan Police rescued her. This was confirmed to G Plus by Pranjal Baruah, Officer in Charge (OC) of Bharalamukh Police Station.


“The woman contacted us because she was missing her son and wanted to come back to Guwahati. She stated that she was not forced at any point and went to Rajasthan on her own. She even signed an agreement and worked at a farm,” Baruah further added.


Currently, Bharalamukh Police is conducting further investigation into the broking racket that is allegedly from Bongaigaon.
